the STATION of HOGSMEADE - 1 Viewing A "tiny, dark platform" where the Hogwarts Express ends its journey north from Platform Nine-And-Three-Quarters. The station is located near the lake, and from there a road extends around the lake to Hogwarts Castle. The station is actually quite a distance from the town itself, being on the opposite side of the Hogwarts grounds. |

the HONEYDUKES SWEETSHOP - 1 Viewing A sweetshop, owned by Ambrosius Flume and his wife, which is filled with "shelves upon shelves of the most succulent-looking sweets imaginable". In addition to the standard wizarding candy that is sold there, the owners also make their own fudge (PA8) and chocolate (PA12). For obvious reasons, the shop is quite a popular destination for Hogwarts students when visiting Hogsmeade on the weekends. |

the HOGS HEAD Located a block or so off High Street, the Hog's Head Inn has been a fixture of Hogsmeade for hundreds of years. A worn-out wooden sign hangs over the door, advertising with a "wild boar's severed head leaking blood onto the white cloth around it". It's known for its cheapness, at least relative to the Three Broomsticks down the street, and attracts a "shall we say... interesting clientele," at least according to Albus Dumbledore. |

the JOKESHOP of ZONKO'S Zonko's is a favourite place for Hogwarts students to shop. Dungbombs, Hiccup Sweets, Frog Spawn Soap, and Nose-Biting Teacups. Fred and George Weasley are thinking of possibly buying the premises and turning it into a Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. |

the THREE BROOMSTICKS A well-known inn and a frequent haunt of Hogwarts students. It's warm and comfortable, is packed, and is a great spot to drink butterbeer, although they also serve firewhisky, gillywater, mulled mead, red currant rum, and even cherry syrup and soda with ice and an umbrella. Run by Madam Rosmerta. |

the CAFE of MADAME PUDDIFOOTS A small, cramped tea shop with decor on the tacky side of frilly (such as floating golden cherubs throwing pink confetti), located ust off High Street. The only Hogwarts students who seem to patronize the place are trysting couples. |

the DERVISH and BANGES - 1 Viewing Shop that sells and repairs "magical instruments and stuff," according to Ron, including Sneakoscopes. |

the SHRIEKING SHACK Falsely rumored to be "the most haunted building in Britain," the Shrieking Shack is a favorite stop on any Hogsmeade visit (PA8). However, the wails that were once heard emanating from this creepy building were not in fact ghosts, but rather Remus Lupin transformed into a werewolf. The shack, in fact, was built when he came to Hogwarts, allowing him to transform a safe distance away from the other students. |

the MINISTRY The Ministry of Magic is the governmental authority for the Wizarding world in Britain. The basic mission of the Ministry is to keep the Muggles from finding out about an entire culture of magical folk. It's a huge, complicated, and inefficient bureaucracy, just like most governmental organizations. The Ministry consists of seven departments of which the Department of Magical Law Enforcement is the largest. All of the other departments are in some way answerable to it, with the possible exception of the Department of Mysteries. |

the PRISON of AZKABAN - 1 Viewing A wizard's prison located on an island in the middle of the North Sea. Using certain Charms, the prison is hidden from the muggle world, and is unplottable. It gained a reputation as a horrible place, given that its former guards, Dementors, cause great suffering to those in their proximity; most prisoners eventually went insane and slowly died under their influence. Since 1717, using any of the three Unforgivable Curses on another human being has carried a punishment of a life sentence in Azkaban (unless there is sufficient evidence that the caster did so under the influence of the Imperius Curse). |

the HOSPITAL OF ST. MUNGO'S St. Mungo's Hospital is the primary wizarding hospital in Britain. Located in an abandoned department store in London, the hospital's Healers treat wizards for all sorts of magic-related illnesses and injuries, and in extreme circumstances has been known to treat Muggles as well. The hospital's logo is a wand and a bone, crossed (OP29), and donations are welcome. The entrance to St. Mungo's is concealed behind an abandoned red-brick London department store called Purge and Dowse, Ltd. on a Muggle street. |

the ALLEY OF DIAGON - 1 Viewing Tapping just the right brick in the wall behind the Leaky Cauldron in London ("Three up...two across...") will reveal an archway which is a portal into Diagon Alley, a long cobbled street where is to be found a strange and exciting assortment of shops and restaurants. It is unquestionably the hub of commerce in the British wizarding world, with virtually every wizarding business stationed there. Consequently, the demand for space here is steep, and rent costs "loads of Galleons" |

the BURROW - 1 Viewing Home to the Weasley family, the Burrow is a house just outside the village of Ottery St. Catchpole (GF6), and is built so crazily that it must certainly be held up by magic. It is likely to have once been a farmhouse (though it looks more like it might have been a "large stone pigpen", on top of which several crooked stories look to have been added. |

the MALFOY MANNER Located in southwestern England in Wiltshire, the Malfoy Mansion is a "handsome manor house" with extensive grounds. Draco Malfoy grew up here with his parents, Lucius and Narcissa, and their house-elf Dobby. Dobby was freed in 1993, and we know of no other family members or house-elves who have stayed here. At some point during his 1996-1997 ascent to power, Voldemort decided to begin using the Malfoy Mansion as a base for Death Eaters. He wasn't around much himself, but a number of Death Eaters stayed there and prisoners were kept in the cellar under the drawing room. |

the HOLLOW OF GODRIC Though a Muggle village, Godric's Hollow has a storied wizarding history. For over a thousand years it has been home to notable wizards and witches, and has been most famous as the birthplace of Hogwarts founder Godric Gryffindor. More recently, however, it has become renowned instead as the site of Voldemort's first downfall. Voldemort came to the village in 1981, in the midst of an open war on the wizarding world, intending to kill one-year-old Harry Potter after overhearing a prophecy predicting Harry's power. Instead his Killing Curse rebounded, blowing apart the house and destroying him. |
